Gagging the press
The advent of the internet and social media shattered all attempts to gag the press and control information flow.
However the chairman of Delta State council of NUJ Comrade Churchill Oyowe seems to be living in the past.
Recently he removed opinion article critical of Gov Sheriff Oborevwori from the NUJ Whatsapp group for what he called one sided report.
The chairman ,however , failed to remove an earlier article written by the communication manager of the governor which was highly disparaging of Senator Ned Nwoko.
The beauty of online and citizen journalism is that information is like air and you cannot cage it.
There are thousands of Whatsapp groups that the NUJ chairman has no control over.
He cannot remove article from Facebook and X. Even more important, he has no control over Google.
The chairman should not give the faintest impression that he is a lackey of Delta State Governor.

Defection in House of Assembly
Since the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko from PDP to APC, the political effect is still troubling the PDP in the state.
There were rumours that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori may join APC.
But the current buzz in Asaba is that seven members of the Delta State House of Assembly have perfected plans to join the APC.
It is becoming so worrisome that within the week, the speaker denied the defection story .
The truth of the matter is that the speaker can only speak for himself .
Those legislators are ready to abandon the sinking PDP ship.
It is becoming clear that APC would take over the state in 2027.
Those who were saying that Senator Ned Nwoko defection would not affect the political fortune of the state would be licking their wounds.
Politics is the art of the impossible.

College of sycophants
Within the week, a group of political appointees came together to pledge their continued support of the Oborevwori administration.
It is as laughable as absurd.
The college of executive assistants promised to work for the second tenure of their principal.
Why were they appointed in the first place?
Their appointment was to feather the political nest of the governor.
They were merely saying the obvious.
In our clime, those controlling political power are happy if their ego are oiled.
In plain language, sycophancy is the trademark of those lucky to be so appointed.
It explains why the country nay Delta state is sitting in the valley of under-development.
