Why Dangote refinery is not working

Nigerians would have to wait for a long time to get refined petroleum products from Dangote refinery, the official of the company disclosed.

A source at the refinery management said the company was not sure when the refinery would begin production.

He rather advised the Federal government to make its refineries work than hoping on Dangote refinery.

Said the source :’For now, the management has not come out with any official date.

We should rather focus on making other refineries work because it would cut down on freight rates from importation, and would reduce prices.

Dangote is a private business man and can decide tomorrow that he would not refine again, although government has a 20 per cent stake in the refinery.

We should rather push for our own refineries, and ask the government the question such as, when is the Port Harcourt refinery going to start refining petrol.?’

It could be recalled that during the commissioning of Dangote Refinery in May by President Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Aliko Dangote promised that the refinery would start production in August.

Said Dangote :’Your excellencies, distinguished guests, our first product will be in the market before the end of July or beginning of August this year.”

The Pond News understands that Dangote refinery failed to meet the August deadline.

Today petrol is sold between N600 and N700 per litre in the country.
