However, there is great impact of Pentecostal churches that challenge Catholics, Anglicans and Baptists for memberships.
There are mega pentecostal churches that thrive on prosperity and miracles.
These churches attract young Nigerians and some of their pastors are extremely rich and fly private jets.
The third African nation with large Christian population is Democratic Republic of Congo.
It has 63.1 million Christians.
Most of the Christians are mostly Catholic church.
Despite the huge Christian population, most of them still practice African traditional religion.
South Africa takes the 4th position with 52.9m, Kenya in 5th position with 40.7m, Tanzania in the 6th position with 31.3m and Uganda in the 7th position with 29.3m.
Others are Madagascar in the 8th position with 22.3m, Ghana in the 9th position with a Christian population of 22m and Angola in the 10th position with 17.1 million Christians.
