Gagging the Press
Within the week ,the Delta state government bared its fangs by the arrest of a controversial journalist who is known for digging out scoops on government activities and secrets.
The one that pierced the nerves of government was the reported fight between two commissioners.
The Information Commissioner Mr Charles Aniagwu had since denied it
Oliver Fejiro was the first reporter to break the news of all PDP defecting to APC.
All these stories, the Oborevwori administration is not happy at all.
The Oliver Fejiro saga is like a monster created by Senator Ifeanyi Okowa administration.
The controversial journalist was an ally of Okowa until they parted ways.
Despite that, the young man continues to get detailed information of government activities.
That is what the administration is trying to unearth.
Fejiro is been questioned about his sources of his information.
The ethical obligation is that of confidentiality.
Journalists don’t disclose sources of information even at the point of death.
The cure to bad publicity is good governance. Period.

Ibori political reach

Chief James Ibori came to power in 1999 with a large heart.
Many politicians who came to Asaba with bathroom slippers are today millionaires who ply their trade in the big boys league.
In Ibori time, a commissioner could give you a contract of three million Naira compared to the present era where a commissioner can’t give a 100k contract.
The wheel of fortune changed and Ibori served his time in London prison.
Naive politicians and public commenters wrote him off.
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa whom Ibori brought to fame disdained him.
Today, there is a new political narrative in town.
Ibori remains a leader you can only ignore at your own peril.
Some of the major appointments from Abuja were got through Ibori connection.
Ibori was already in APC before the mass defection of PDP to APC.
The Pond News understands that Ibori would be a major stakeholder who shall decide who fly the APC governorship flag.
Reports reaching The Pond News point to the direction that the next chairman of INEC might turn out to be Ibori ally.
This is not a surprise given the rosy relation between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ibori.
Don’t forget that the president spouse is of Itsekiri extraction and Ibori maternally is of the Itsekiri stock.
Ibori is a silent and smooth political operator.
The 2027 governorship election remains very pregnant and unpredictable.

Warri Crisis, Politics over governance

The boiling cauldron that is Warri is proving a test case of governance for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The three tribes of Warri a la Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo are daggers drawn over ward delineation and supremacy of traditional rulers.
Initially the governor said he would not take sides.
In politics and international relations, neutrality is a difficult position to attain.
You cannot sit on the fence.
Many analysts see the governor position as a case of politics and not wanting anything that would terpedo his 2027 re election bid.
But within the week, the governor threatened thunder and brimstone, saying that anybody causing problem in Warri would be dealt with.
The Pond News is sympathetic with this position.
In walking the minefield that is Warri, justice, fairness and equity should be the principles.
No room should be given to appeasement as all the tribes are equal stakeholders in Warri.
