Okpanam land grabbers

A social evil as regards land grabbing is rearing its ugly head in Okpanam, Oshimili North LGA of Delta State.

There are group of idle young men pasting court suits on buildings in Okotomi layout, Asaba Core Area II.

Some of these buildings are old as twenty years.

These young men dissatisfied with their elders for selling the land want to recover such buildings.

Such behaviors are dead on arrival and if not checked could snowball into major crises.

The Ministry of Lands, the authority of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency and the Police should step in.

Nobody will fold his hands and allow some miscreants to disturb the peace of the environment under the veneer of land recovery.

Insecurity in Ogwashi Uku

Within the week, a female student of the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi Uku was kidnapped.

And the kidnappers are demanding N10m as ransome.

Reports said that the unfortunate student and her boyfriend were accosted by the kidnappers but the boyfriend was able to escape from the car.

The Pond News understands that the insecurity in Ogwashi Uku is getting out of hand.

Yet there are police and all manners of security personnel extorting money from young men driving exotic cars.

There is a divisional police headquarters, a police mobile base, yet insecurity continues to plague the polytechnic community.

To say that the police are in slumber is understatement.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should swing into action and restore peace to the community.

Dearth of private radio in Asaba

Time was when Bridge FM was the rave of the moment in Asaba, the state capital.

It was dishing out independent news spiced with music.

In December 2024, the management said the radio station would be off the air for maintenance.

But information available to The Pond News is that the radio is dead.

Time was also when Hot FM radio Asaba was really hot.

Today the radio station is no more.

The only private radio station serving Asaba is Trend FM.

In neighbouring Onitsha, there are many thriving private radio stations.

The advice to those who may wish to establish private radio station is that they should understudy the model of Trend FM .

Broadcasting is a serious business that should be manned by professionals.

Asaba needs private radio stations to get objective news of the government, the type DBS , Radio cannot broadcast.
