Voices of Marginalisation
For a month running, the Information Commissioner, Mr Charles Aniagwu has been on the bashing end.
He is defending his principal against perceived marginalisation by some Deltans.
It started with Udu LGA. And the Isoko nation took over.
Even some Isoko lawyers went a step further.
The lawyers are currently in court about the marginalisation of Isoko nation.
This is one of the fine principles of democracy – freedom of expression.
The truth of the matter is that no government can satisfy all the people.
But what these agitators aka Oliver Twist are doing is the work of legislators.
The legislators are in charge of approving the budget and they are supposed to present the concerns or the social amenities desired in their areas.
Apart from that, in their oversight functions, these deficiencies should be pointed out.
This page is not holding brief for the governor.
The reality is that the state legislators had failed their constituents.
Those complaining of marginalisation should know where to direct their angers – the legislators.
The moral and enduring lessons of these complains is that the people can no longer be taken for granted.
These people can also use their voters cards to send strong messages to the politicians.

Industrial parks dummies

The late Afro beat megastar Fela Kuti in one of his songs talked about government magic.
Translation: Government would talk one thing and do a different thing.
This is what in playing out in the state.
The deputy governor, Sir Monday Onyeme has been touring the so called industrial sites in Aboh Ogwashi and Kwale .
In the case of Aboh Ogwashi, the deputy governor confessed that it was a government and private sector initiative.
In other words, the government is waiting for the private sector to come before the project could take off.
Onyeme was also tight lip on the amount government is planning to pump into the project.
He did not also tell Deltans the money that was earmarked for it in the budget.
In the euphoria of that tour, he went to Kwale in Ndokwa West LGA.
The deputy governor is from Ndokwa West.
He praised to high heavens the benefits of the Kwale Industrial Park.
He also showcased a wire manufacturing firm.
It is not clear whether the firm is part of the Kwale Industrial Park.
The Pond News understands that the contractor who was in charge to the Kwale Industrial Park habitable is annoyed that the government is yet to fulfil the contractual agreement.
The Kwale Industrial Park has rich but disturbing history.
Billions of Naira were earmarked for the project during the Okowa administration.
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa even travelled to China to court investors and in the lyric of legendary Fela, government magic.

The battle for APC soul

It is only a visitor from outer space that would say that all is well with the Delta State APC.
Since the collapse of PDP ( sorry defection) into APC, intrigues, backstabbing and outright betrayal are the hallmark of the party.
The PDP bigwigs in the mould of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, former governor and deputy governor, Sir Monday Onyeme are hellbent in taking over the structures of the party.
The old APC members especially Senator Ovie Omo Agege, a governorship hopeful and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi are stoutly against that.
The chairman of the party, Elder Omeni Sobotie is playing along with the various factions.
But the test of unity of the party is the state Congress of the party that would produce the chairman and other executive members.
The fight akin to the night of long knives would also play out at the local government and wards levels.
The meaning is that those political bigwigs with eyes for national and state elections would want to have their people in strategic positions.
These are the officials who shall determine the fate of primaries.
The big prize is the governorship ticket.
The Oborevwori camp is not comfortable with the political moves of Senator Ovie Omo Agege.
The winners of the party primaries at any level would consider themselves candidates and eventual winners of the 2027 election.
The wisecrack of Albert Einstein, the famous vibrant American scholar that politics is much more difficult than physics would come to play in state.
