Unruly council chairman and Reporters
On Thursday August 1, some Deltans gathered at the popular junction leading to Government House, Summit Road and Okpanam. road Asaba to protest hunger in the country.
The hunger protest was initially peaceful until the Oshimili South Council chairman sent his thugs to attack journalists.
These journalists were merely recording the event for posterity.
The action of the council chairman is condemnable.
Agreed that the State Information Commissioner Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza did the media damage control,
but the overzealous chairman must be made to pay his recklessness.
Protest is a fundamental right of every Nigerian.
The press as the Fourth Estate of the Realm must be allowed to carry out its responsibility.
Agreed that he is the council chairman of Oshimili South and that Asaba is the headquarters of the council area.
In his overzealous disposition, he forgot that Asaba is the capital of Delta State with a governor in charge.
There are some small politicians who believe that they could play in the big league. Ezenyenili got it wrong.

Council Autonomy
Within the week, the elected council chairmen gathered in Asaba to discuss the allocation from Abuja.
The Pond News understands that the council chairmen are indirectly going against the Supreme Court ruling that gave them financial autonomy.
This has confirmed the fears in many quarters that the council chairmen would not exercise their freedom.
Political observers are not surprised
The council chairmen belong a party and they are in the elective positions on the benevolence of the party and state governor.
So it would be fool hardy for any council chairman to oppose the governor. That is grassroot government for you

NUJ Parley to Party
The Delta State council of NUJ started innovation in media interaction with news makers.
So two badly organized sessions took place.
The first was the chairman of Oshimili South LGA. He didn’t come but sent the vice chairman.
There was no policy statement and so was the welfare of the reporters present.
The second one came and at the end of media interaction , the man said he was not properly briefed.
The Pond News understands that a female reporter with DBS is the consultant of the project.
This is not tidy at all. What is the function of the press conference committee?
Every journalist is a public relation officer by training.
It is a tradegy that we are failing in a small public relations assignment. Let the ‘parley to party’ be done properly or be cancelled.
