Oborevwori returning to PDP?
Within the week, the news that gained currency was the rumoured defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori from APC to PDP.
Charecteriscally, the Delta APC described the news as fake , adding that people should discard the rumour and that Oborevwori was in the APC for good .
The social media was on fire on the defection of the governor barely four months of dumping the PDP.
The latest news about the rumoured defection is that it would be pretty difficult for the governor to get the APC ticket.
This development is informed that the governor and the former PDP members were finding it difficult to take over the structures of the APC.
This is because the old members of APC have iron grip on the structure of the party and would not let that go.
If this state of affairs continues, the governor may have to go back to PDP so as to contest the 2027 governorship polls.
If the governorship primaries is thrown upon, it is not very clear whether Oborevwori would get the ticket.
Rumour in politics normally translates into reality with the passage of time.
With politicians lacking clear cut ideological bent, they are free to meet from one party to another a la going back to their vommit.

No Ministerial Briefing

For more than two years running, the Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is dodging meeting local journalists in Delta State a la media quarterly briefing.
The predecessors of Oborevwori did that with religious faithfulness.
For some curious reasons only known to the governor and his media handlers , they did not see the wisdom of media quarterly briefing.
And perhaps the Commissioners are threading that infamous path of media blackout and silence.
Yet there is a seasoned journalist as the information commissioner.
Some Deltans are not even aware that a former editor of a national newspaper is the head of the State information council.
To them, there is no need for ministerial press briefing where commissioners are expected to render account of stewardship.
Yet within the week, some selected commissioners gave their account of stewardship to students of Institute of Strategic studies, Kuru on study tour of the state.
It is question of charity beginning abroad.
The 1999 constitution as amended gave power to the media to hold the government accountable to the people.
Running to national media to tell the Delta State is at best half measures.
In the same vein ,getting some funny media awards would not whitewash the inadequacies of governance known to the local journalists who are close to the grassroots.
It is hoped that remaining two years would be used to correct the error.

Dress code for civil servants
Within the week, the Delta State Head of service Dr (Mrs)M. Oseji received the report on proposed dress code for civil servants.
This is a good idea so that civil servants will look pleasant and neat as they drive the engine of the state administration.
But there is a caveat.
Who is going to fund the dress? Is there going to be dress allowance for civil servants?
With galloping inflation, most civil servants are living from hands to mouth.
The reality of the matter is that most civil servants are broke before the 20th of every month.
The head of service should thread carefully as regards the dress code.
The head of service should pay a surprise visit to the state secretariat.
Majority of civil servants resume work between 9.30 and 10am. Before you say Jack Robinson, as from 3pm, they start heading home.
It is really unfortunate against the backdrop that civil servants don’t go to work everyday.
This should rather be the concern of the Head of Service instead of the proposed dress code.
