Police and Indecent Dressing
Within the week, the Delta State Ministry of Justice warned the police not to harass citizens under the cover of indecent dressing.
The Ministry also reminded the police not to confuse indecent dressing with indecent exposure.
Deltans were also advised to report any harassment because of dressing to the office of the public defender, Ministry of Justice.
It is rather curious that of the many laws enacted by the government, the police decided to focus on indecent dressing.
There is a wide gap between indecent dressing and indecent exposure.
Asaba, the state capital has turned to a zone of police exploitation.
Every road is manned by the police looking for what one cannot understand.
Phones and bags of people are searched, yet that has not reduced the crime rate in the capital city.
Even more disturbing is the silence of the police on the anti grazing law passed by the State House of Assembly and assented to by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Why is the police not enforcing the anti grazing law? Why is the police not combating kidnapping in the state ?
But when citizens of Abraka, a university town demonstrated against kidnapping and herdsmen menace, the police descended on innocent citizens.
Maybe it is time the State House of Assembly invite the police to explain to Deltans their constraints as regards the enforcement of anti grazing law.

Ministry of Information: Functioning PS
Within the week Mrs Theresa Oliko bowed out after many years of service.
The painful aspect of the story is that she retired as functioning permanent secretary.
It could be recalled that Mr Lucky Omokri also retired as functioning PS.
Mr Harold Oji is now the functioning PS.
The Pond News celebrates a man of the pen fraternity.
But the bigger picture is that :why is the government finding it difficult to appoint a substantive permanent secretary?
Why is Charles Aniagwu unable to influence the appointment of a permanent secretary ?
This is the second coming of Aniagwu to the Ministry of Information.
Not too long ago, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori promised to appoint permanent secretaries.
It is hoped that the promise should come to pass.
It is indignity and professional insult beyond description that the Ministry of Information cannot get a substantive permanent secretary.
This error should be corrected.

Half Measure for Associate Profs
The Delta State government within the week said that associate Profs would now retire at the age of 70 years.
Higher Education Commissioner Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari gave the cheerful news while speaking to reporters in Asaba.
The Education Commissioner explained that the move apart from its motivation effect, these Profs shall mentor the younger ones especially in post graduate program.
It is a good gesture, no doubt.
However ,the Higher Education was silent on the retirement package.
A full fledged Prof on retirement goes home with his last salary.
What are the fate of the Associate Profs? Will they go home with their last month salary?
This aspect of the package should be well spelt out so that this good gesture may not turn out as Greek gift .
Government should not implement policy in the educational sector that could attract industrial disharmony.
