How not to celebrate The Pointer
Last week ,Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led a team of government officials to Grand Hotel, Asaba to celebrate the newspaper thirty years of unbroken journalism.
The occasion was mortally flawed by two reasons. The choice of Grand Hotel was a reminder that the newspaper corporate headquarters is domiciled in a rented apartment.
For thirty years the state government for reasons best known to her refused to build a befitting office.
The Pointer land close to DBS Asaba has been grabbed by politicians.
And there is nothing to show that the present government would change the ugly narrative.
Even more annoying about the celebration is the way and manner The Pointer management were disdained.
The celebration was about The Pointer not government officials.
In the cutting of the anniversary cake, The GM and the editors were not allowed to get close to the table.
The Pond News is sad about the overzealous attitude of The Pointer board chairman. It is very unfortunate the way journalists are treated.

Dishonest contractors

Last week, the state governor ,Hon Sheriff Oborevwori cried out that some contractors were colluding with Ministry of Works engineers to deliver poor jobs to Deltans.
The governor said such contractors would be fired. A good idea, no doubt.
But the governor failed to name the erring contractors. It could have been better to name and shame them.
Talk is cheap but action is very expensive. There are two glaring examples.
Okpanam bypass road, the governor at a point refused to commission the road. According the governor , the gutters were not built according to specifications.
The contractor was neither named nor punished.
The roads in Sapele that attracted citizen journalist having his bath in a muddy swimming pool was built by the former state chairman of the PDP. No action was taken.
Such incidents would make Deltans to believe that the governor was merely playing to the gallery by his threats to contractors. Deltans demand actions and not words.

Political sycophancy
Politics in our climes is in the realm of delusions and sycophancy
No leader wants to be told the truth, you must minister to his over bloated ego
Last week some, Ijaw group led by a former federal minister met Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba.
Their message : Don’t bother to come to Ijaw land to campaign. We are with you in 2027.
They moved a notch higher, your development projects would speak for you.
This group and the governor took one thing for granted : they are in charge of the future, the exclusive domain of God.
Anything could happen politically between now and 2027.These people spoke for themselves and their pockets.
The many Ijaw people were not consulted
