The South African government has made it abundantly clear that it will not arrest the Russian president Vladimir Putin.
President Cyril Ramaphosa made this position known recently during a joint press conference with visiting Finnish President Sauli Niinisto.
Ramaphosa disclosed that despite pressure from the West to arrest Putin when he visits South Africa in August, his country shall instead pull out of the International Criminal Court.
It would be recalled that International Criminal Court declared Putin wanted over alleged war crimes in Ukraine.
Said Ramaphosa :Our view is that we would like this matter of unfair treatment to be properly discussed.
But in the meantime, the governing party has decided once again that there should be a pullout, so that will be a matter that will be taken forward.’
Putin is to attend the BRICS group of nation’s meeting in August.
The BRICS nations are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
South Africa is a staunch ally of Russia and has refused to condemn the invasion of Ukraine.
The Pond News understands that any arrest of Vladimir Putin could ignite a third world war with the use of nuclear weapons.
