Contractors handling various projects for the forthcoming National Sports Festival coming up in the state have been charged to speed up work so they can complete the job within the stipulated time frame.
Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, gave the charge yesterday when he inspected facilities at the astro turf hockey pitch, in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, construction of sports commission hostel complex beside St. Brigid’s Girls’ Grammar School, Asaba, multipurpose indoor sports hall at the Stephen Keshi international Stadium, Asaba and hostel facilities at the Dennis Osadebey University, Asaba.
Ukah, who is also the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the sports festival, was conducted round the projects sites by the the Site Engineers of the various projects where he told them to ensure that they kept to the specifications of the jobs to enable them deliver a world class project.
While inspecting the facilities at the multipurpose indoor sports hall, the SSG called on the contractor handling the project to increase the pace of work by working day and night so they can complete the project by the end of September since the facilities will be test run before the commencement of the festival in November.
In an interview after the inspection, Ukah, who said he was satisfied with the level of work, expressed optimism that the contractors would deliver the projects on time.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to hosting the best sports festival in the country.
