The South South region of Nigeria is not only famous for crude oil riches but well endowed with world standard athletes.
Mr Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Information Commissioner made this declaration today while speaking to reporters at Stephen Keshi stadium on the ongoing National Sports Festival.
Aniagwu said that Delta, Bayelsa and Edo states were leading in the medals table, adding that South South would continue to produce athletes of international standard.
On the medal table, Delta State is leading with 146 gold and Bayelsa coming distant second with 40 gold.
The Information Commissioner commended journalists for effective coverage of the sports festival .
He said reporting by journalists has improved the business of sports.
On a sad note, one athlete from Imo state, a boxer died.
Aniagwu sent message of condolence to Imo State Government, the Boxing Federation and family of dead athlete.
