The death of Queen Elizabeth on Thursday at the age of 96 sent shock waves across the globe. However, here in Nigeria ,it is brewing political crisis.
Yesterday, one Adamu Garba, a presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party asked the federal government to rename the University of Nigeria, Nsukka after the late British monarch.
Many Nigerians have described the suggestion of Garba as after whiskey talk.
Reacting ,the Ohaneze Ndigbo kicked against it and instead said that Aso Rock or any other historical landmark in the north should be named after the monarch.
The secretary general of the organization, Okechukwu Isiguzoro advised the government to ignore the suggestion, adding that such a move was capable of instigating conflict in Nigeria.
The Pond news understands that Oxford University will not be named after the Queen.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka is a global brand and the late Zik of Africa before his death pleaded with the Federal Government not to name the University after him.
The Pond news supports the stand against any change of name of UNN.
Those who are interested to immortalize the Queen are at liberty to scout for other means of doing that.
