The underbelly of Delta State information machinery and management was exposed as result of the killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama, Ughelli South LGA.

The tragic event happened on Thursday last week and it took the government information managers two days (Saturday) to issue a statement.

In a statement issued on Saturday by chief press secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori condemned the action of the youth.

Part of the statement reads thus: ‘The Government of Delta State is gravely disturbed by the violence and unprovoked killing of the officers and soldiers, which he described as alien to the culture of Deltans.’

The issue in Okuama is beyond press release by the chief press secretary.

The state governor ought to make a state wide broadcast on DBS, Asaba and DRTV, Asaba.

Strategic information management demands that the state governor should push the government version of story.

That the government was committed to the promotion of peace to attract investors.

The Information managers ought to advise the governor to push the state narrative of events in major national media especially the front pages of newspapers and prime time television news.

The government ought to place adverts in major national dailies as against the present tradition of celebrating of Nigerians.

In the alternative, the Information Commissioner Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza ought to lead the media campaign against the dastardly act of the youth.

The story is too big for the chief press secretary to handle.

The Pond News understands that Mideno Bayagbon, former Editor of the Vanguard newspaper and publisher of TheNews Guru is the brain box of the Oborevwori administration.

This lack of strategic information management is a dent on the MORE agenda.
