The northern politicians have insisted that they must produce the next Senate president as a reward for voting for the president elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A former governor of Zamfara state and senator elect Abdul’Aziz yesterday told President Muhammadu Buhari that APC should consider ‘reward performance’ and not ethnicity and religion about principal offices in the 10th National Assembly.
Said Yari :’ I am advising the party, that they should reward performance, not religion, because religion is not in the constitution of Nigeria, and it is not in our manifesto and our constitution ‘…
Therefore, we are saying the party should do the right thing. And those that are going around saying ‘Muslim-Christian’ should be very careful. Our education in politics is more than that now.’
The Pond News understands that the current Senate president Ahmed Lawan is from the north making the two key positions held by the north- President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate president.
Currently there are moves by the APC to zone the Senate president to either South South or South East.
With a Moslem Moslem President and vice president, the north getting the Senate president would create room for moslems to dominate the three key political positions.
It would also send a sad and powerful message to Christians that their feelings do not count in Nigeria.
Furthermore, if the Igbos failed to get the Senate president, it would make them feel unwanted in the Nigerian federation.
The political reality of the tripod of Hausa, Yoruba and Igbos shall be shattered.
