The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi uku, Blder Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, has underscored the importance of builders and the need for standards to be met in the building of structures across the country.
Achuenu spoke during a lecture in Asaba for the 2024 builders day, with the theme ” The Role of Builders in Sustainable Housing Delivery”, hinted that there is a need to dismantle quackery from the profession.
He explained that housing has been the second most important needs of man, noting that from inception builders were playing the centre role in the actualization of ideas to the building owners.
Achuenu expressed worry over builders not been on same idea which have given room to non builders to hijack the profession that is resulting to building collapse
The Professor explained that building as a discipline, process, and physical products, while builders are those that are academically trained in putting together the idea and process.
He emphasized the need for standard qualities before, during, and, after, the commencement of building structures and a proper scrutiny of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and strict adherence to the rule of building engagements as not to jeopardize the sanctity of the building plan.
The Builders Day celebration focused on the need to ensure strict compliance with the best global practices, with a resolve to do the right thing in the building.
Present at the 2024 Builders day celebration , were the Commissioner for Housing , Hon Godknows Angele, represented by the ministry’s Director of Public Buildings, Architect Pius Amromanoh, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Nigeria lnstitute of Building , Delta State Chapter , Bldrs Samuel Omiyi and Roy Ononye, respectively , and stakeholders in the building value chain, among others
