The Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, has lauded the Rotary Club for its selfless service to humanity at all times.
Ukah gave the commendation at Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state on the occasion of the investiture ceremony of the Chief Whip of Oshimili North Legislative Arm and one of the councillors representing Okpanam ward 9, Hon. Jeffrey Mordi as the 2nd President of Rotary Club of Okpanam Hilltop and presentation of award to deserving individuals.
The SSG , who was represented by the Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Special Duties, Office of the SSG, Mr. Luka Igbonoba, was one of the awardees at the ceremony.
Speaking further Ukah called on other non-governmental organisations to emulate the initiative of Rotary Club, stressing that the club had continued to redefine service to humanity.
On his part, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly candidate for Oshimili North Constituency in 2023 general elections, Hon. Frank Esenwa , who was also one of the awardees, described the award as a thing of joy .
Esenwa said that the recognition was an indication that his modest contributions to the society were being observed, adding that it was always gratifying to touch lives .
In his remarks after his investiture, the new President of Rotary Club of Okpanam Hilltop, Rtn. (Hon.) Mordi promised to contribute meaningfully towards driving Rotary Club of Okpanam Hilltop to enviable heights, adding that he was happy to be installed as the new president of the club in the area.
Mordi, who hinted that the club had been impacting on lives of students in the area through health outreach and the provision of textbooks, notebooks and other educational materials as well as uniforms, appealed to their mother club , the Rotary Club of Government House, Asaba to continue to render assistance to Rotary Club of Okpanam Hilltop.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Installation Committee, Rtn Henry Mokwene, and the Vice President of Rotary Club of Okpanam Hilltop, Rtn. Emmanuel Ezeadigwu, who spoke on behalf of the outgoing President,said that the club was confronted with some teething challenges which, according to them, was ideal of a new club in the area, but expressed gratitude to Rotary Club of Government House, Asaba for its numerous support.
