The former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has thrown his weight behind the presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi.
This political endorsement came via New Year message today.
Obasanjo said that in character, knowledge, discipline and vitality Obi was the best.
In a New Year message released by media aide to the former president, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said he would fail as a patriot for not telling the truth, describing Obi as his mentee.
Part of the New Year message reads this :’None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding knowledge, discipline and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge.’
Meanwhile the APC presidential candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the endorsement as worthless, adding that Obasanjo has no political influence in the country.
Tinubu added that Obasanjo was living in his past political glory.
The Pond News understands that Obasanjo endorsement of Obi is a considerable boost to the Labour Party presidential candidate chances to win the presidency in February election.
