Pope Francis has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s migrant deportation policies, labeling them a “major crisis” that undermines human dignity.
In a letter to US bishops, the Pope urged Catholics and individuals of good conscience to reject discriminatory narratives that perpetuate unnecessary suffering among migrants and refugees.
The Pope’s criticism comes as Trump plans to implement the largest deportation campaign in US history, which Francis warns will lead to a “calamity.”
While acknowledging nations’ rights to defend their borders, Francis emphasized the importance of upholding migrants’ dignity.
Francis stressed that deporting individuals fleeing extreme poverty, insecurity, and persecution is an affront to their dignity.
Migrants often have no choice but to leave their homes due to life-threatening circumstances, and deporting them places them in an even more vulnerable state.
Francis urged world leaders to show compassion toward those seeking refuge and emphasized that immigration policies must prioritize human dignity and well-being.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis has been a vocal advocate for migrants’ rights, and his letter to US bishops reiterates his commitment to promoting compassion and equality.
