The Delta State Police Commissioner Mr Mohammed Ari has warned trouble makers and thugs not to get close to any polling units for such people will live to regret their actions.
He also said that anyone that runs foul of the law in the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections will be apprehended and prosecuted.
Commissioner Ari handed down the warning during a meeting with politicians in Patani.
The police Commissioner who was represented by the DPO in charge of Patani police station, chief superintendent Tobi Debakeme said the police high command will send a crack team to Patani during the election.
He therefore called on politicians and their supporters to maintain peace, adding that elections were opportunities for the electorates to choose their leaders.
He tasked the politicians to caution their supporters against violence and thuggery.
It would be recalled that the legal team of APC had made a complaint to the Police Commissioner about the conduct and activities of some PDP chieftains in the LGA likely to lead to break down of law and order in the forthcoming polls.
After the meeting between the police, APC and PDP politicians, they promised to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The Police Commissioner also used the occasion to remind all the candidates that they would be required to sign an undertaking of good behaviour.
Those who attended the meeting on behalf of APC were Chief Lawrence Babodor, the vice chairman, Barrister Opute Yakekemewerigha, Barrister Pere Nduku, Barrister Reginald Ashugwu and Elder Joseph Ekiyor.
The PDP was represented by Honourable Isaac Aguanah, Jude Sinebe, Godspower Ashugwu and Godbless Omoniyei.
