The com missioner of police Delta State, Ali Baba Mohamed has charged the residents of Ethiope West local government area to work with the police to curb crime rate in the area.
The charged was given at a town hall meeting held at the council secretariat in Oghara the headquarters of Ethiope West local government area to brainstorm on how to tackle and to reduce crime rate to the barest minimum in the local government area.
The commissioner of police while addressing the people, said policing was not just a one man business but collective efforts.
He urged the people to work with the police by providing information needed to fight crime.
While responding to the questions and suggestions raised by the people in an interactive section, Ali Baba told the people to always channel their information to the right authorities such as the area commander and the DPO, not just any police on uniform.
The CP noted that his phone numbers were always available for anyone who has useful information that would help in curbing crime rate.
While lamenting over the recent killing of a medical doctor in the area, the commissioner reiterated that enough was enough as they were no longer going to condole cultists’ activities and any criminal acts in the area.
He urged all to expose any criminal around them as criminals were not to be covered if they wanted a peaceful and a society free of crime.
While responding to the various suggestions and questions raised by the people, Ali Baba told them all they needed to do and how to go about it as his mission for the meeting was to brainstorm with the people of the area to know the way forward on how to tackle crime rate in the area.
Earlier in his open remarks, the council chairman Hon Oghenedoro Owoso commended the commissioner of police for the effort he was putting to fight crime rate in the local government and the state.
The council chairman noted that the interactive measures would also go a long way in helping the police to fight crime in the area.
While applauding the CP for bringing some security men on patrol to also help in tackling the issue of insecurity in the area, the council boss encouraged his people to speak up and suggest to the commissioner what would helped the police in doing their job effectively.
Some of the issues raised by the people were the challenges they were facing such as kidnapping, cult related issues, killings, Fulani herdsmen criminal acts amongst others and the way forward.
Speaking at the meeting the Rector of Otefe polytechnic, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri noted that the issue of cultism could be tackled by calling for renouncement of membership by cultists and also by prosecuting any cult member caught committing crime or with firearm.
The Oghara youth president, Mr Favour Ededey suggested that names of cultists should be published and advised that police should be well equipped to carry out their jobs effectively.
Chiefs from the three clan that made up Ethiope West also spoke on some of the areas they were facing challenges as well as the youths from the various clans including the Ovie of Mosogar and the representative of the Arewa community in the area.
It was a remarkable day in Ethiope West local government area as various stakeholders were present at the meeting.
