Delta State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has stressed the need for Nigerians to come together to make the country a better place.

Okowa stated this at the first session of the Eight Synod with the theme, “The Church and Contemporary Issues, A Voice For Future Generation”, held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Boji Boji Owa in Ika North East Local Government Areas.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, said “I am very happy with the contributions of the Anglican Church towards the wellbeing of the country.”

While saying that the theme of the Synod was timely, he called on christians to continue to pray to God to heal the country of its various drawbacks.

“Again, like before, the church has made its stands known concerning the state of the nation. That is why nobody should sit on the fence. We must come together to make this country a better place,” he stated.

Earlier in his charge, the Bishop of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Ika, Rt. Revd. Godfrey Ekpenisi, noted that the church was a major stakeholder in the spiritual, social, cultural, religious and even political life goals of man, just as the state was committed and dedicated to the social and political life of the people.

According to him, to salvage the democratic image in a nation’s political system, the church and, indeed christians, had a role to play and must be commited.

Speaking further, Revd. Ekpenisi disclosed that there was the possibility of effective and successful governance in the country, if christians actively participate in politics.
