By Christian Ogoh
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, has harped on the need for unity among journalists in the state.
Ikeogwu stated this during the inauguration of the executives of the Grassroot Observer Chapel in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
“I want to congratulate you all for the bold steps you have taken to be relevant in the history of Delta NUJ.
“You all are welcome to our success story. It is in our era that an ultra modern press centre of the union was completed in the state and the welfare of journalists is also prioritised, among others,” he stated.
While commending Lady Joy Mordi, Comrade Chris Mosindi and his executives, he said for any society to experience meaningful change, men of courage must rise to the occasion.
Ikeogwu frowned at what he described as negative attitude of some journalists towards one another and urged them to be united.
“When we visited the state governor, he laid emphasis on the need for newsmen to be united and I agree with him because when we are united we have better chances of achieving more,” he added.
According to him, the state election of the union would hold in October this year, adding that journalists should not heat up the polity and should eschew bitterness of all kind.
“As much as possible, we should go about the up coming election cordially. My tenure will be expiring in October.I pray God will give us leaders that will represent us well,” he stated.
In his remarks, the newly elected Chairman of the Grassroot Observer Chapel, Comrade Chris Mosindi, commended the state chairman and his executives for their various achievements in the state and promised to work with the council to advance its growth in the state.
