‘Govt Selling Federal Universities to Investors’

There are clear indications that federal Universities are in financial problems despite the double speak of Minister of Education Prof Tahir Mamman.

Responding to ASUU claim that the government planned to handover federal Universities to investors,he said government has no plan to sell the universities.

But the reply of the Minister was contradictory.

Addressing the Second Quarterly Engagement of the Education Ministry in Abuja today, he said what government has in mind is to invite people to invest in the universities.

Listen to Him ::There is no plan to sell off universities to investors , noting that the policy of the government is to allow transnational education.

That the government would open up the tertiary education by taking people from the rest of the world to invest in the tertiary system.

Said the Minister : ‘This government believes in our public institutions . However, as we all know this government has reforms that this country needs.
What this government has done is to open up the tertiary education level, in particular the Universities for global competitiveness’.

The Pond News understands that many federal universities are imposing various forms of levies on their students thereby making education very expensive.

Despite the coloration given to the reforms in teritary education, it is becoming unaffordable to vast majority of Nigerian students.
