The Delta State government has given four hundred million Naira to mission schools to upgrade their teaching and learning facilities.
The cheques were presented to the forty mission schools in Asaba by the secretary to state government, Chief Patrick Ukah.
Ukah recalled that after state government handover of the schools to the mission owners in 2011, government decided to give them grants so that the schools can provide quality education to Deltans.
Ukah stated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa approved the grant in 2022 at the 6th Synod of the Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
He tasked the schools to use the grant to peak up the level of teaching and learning in their various schools.
Ukah named the beneficiaries as African Church, Warri Diocese, one school, Anglican Church, Asaba Diocese, three schools, Anglican Church, Oleh Diocese, two schools and Anglican Church, Ughelli Diocese, one school.
Others are Anglican Church, Warri Diocese, one school, Baptist Church Convention, four schools, Catholic Church, Issele Uku Diocese, eleven schools, Catholic Church, Warri Diocese, 15 schools and Catholic Church, Bomadi Vicarate, one school.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Bishop of Warri Catholic Diocese, Bishop Anthony Ewherido, represented by Rev. Fr. Christopher Ekabo appreciated the government for the financial assistance.
He prayed God to grant the governor and his team their political ambitions.
Ewherido, however, made a case of return of mission primary schools to their mission owners.
