Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, has assured the management and staff of the Delta State College of Education, Warri that the state government would not renege in its commitment towards the prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements due to all tertiary institutions staff in the state.
Ashibogwu gave the assurance in Warri during a familiarisation visit to the institution.
He stated that the Delta State Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with the state government was ready to extend a roburst working relationship with the institution, adding that there was the urgent need to build hostel accommodation for the students in the college.
The commissioner said that all programmes that were yet to be accredited in the institution would be fully accredited before the end of the Okowa administration in the state.
While expressing gratitude for the warm reception given him and his team, he appealed for the students union to stop threatening the state government with warning strikes.
“Our children would suffer for it, if you embark on strikes. See the children as your own and maintain the standard the state government had put in place in the academic sector,” he said.
Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr. Dickson Ovovwi, appealed for the provision of more hostel accommodation for students, landscaping and road network to befit the status of the college as one of the foremost colleges of education in the state.
