In a bid to cater for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are not sheltered in the camps, the Delta State Government has approved distribution of relief materials to these category of persons.

The Secretary to the State Government Chief Patrick Ukah, made this known when he handed over cheques to the council chairmen of the impacted communities in his office in Asaba.

Ukah noted that the state government recognized the fact that some communities impacted by the flood had set up camps by themselves and there was need to also provide relief materials for them to cushion the effect of the flood on them.

The SSG warned against diverting the relief materials for the IDPs as this was tantamount to stealing.

He commended individuals and various groups who have so far donated relief materials to the IDPs camps and solicited for more donations to the camps.

Meanwhile, Ukah on Saturday visited the IDPs camp at Ewulu, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

He was conducted round the camp by the Camp Commandant, Mrs. Florence Ukwata. Areas visited include the kitchen, store and medical facility, among others.

The visit coincided with the donation of relief materials to the IDPs in Ewulu by Onu Ika Nigeria.

The camp has a total of 2,538 displaced persons made up of 228 men, 339 women and 1911 children.
