Fake condoms flood markets

Nigerian men have been warned that there are fake male condoms in circulation and using them is like involving in unprotected sex.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) issued the health alert.

NAFDAC said a counterfeit KIss condoms were in the Nigerian market especially in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The Kiss condoms according to the agency have also been found in Idumota market and Trade Fair Market in Lagos as well as markets in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu .

The Pond News understands that the essence of using condoms during sex is to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

NAFDAC official explained thus :’The use of fake condoms poses serious health risks due to poor quality, lack of sterilisation and absence of regulation. This can lead to ineffective protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.’

The agency also warned that the risks associated with fake condoms include breakage, infection, allergic reactions and false sense of security.

NAFDAC advised Nigerians to avoid using Kiss condoms for now until all the fake products are withdrawn from markets.

Christmas and New Year celebrations are occasion for increased social activities of which sex is the major index.
