Ex lepers under the umbrella of People Afflicted with Leprosy (PAL) in Delta State have set a socio economic agenda for Governor elect Chief Sheriff Oborevwori insisting that they should be given a sense of belonging in the new administration come May 29.
They demanded for the payment of N30,000 against the current payment of N8,000 monthly and the rehabilitation of all lepers settlements across the state.
In a congratulatory message to governor elect signed by Paul Oke and made available to reporters, they painted their plight of agony as most members of the public including relatives shun them.
The statement which was released in Eku, Ethiope East LGA of Delta State, they placed their hope on governor elect while appreciating what Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had done for them.
Part of the congratulatory message reads: Nobody wants to get closer to us. We beg to survive although some of us do menial jobs. In a country where the cost of food and services has skyrocketed, one can imagine what N8,000 can do for a PAL and his family.
That is why we are appealing to the incoming governor to consider us for a minimum wage. Our members voted for him so he should not forget us.’
The ex lepers also appreciated Okowa for his strides in construction of roads, healthcare, education and skills acquisition programmes.
