Delta State Government and the Anambra State Government have set up a joint task force to control vehicular movement within the stretch of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha Expressway, which runs from the Asaba International Airport to the Niger Bridge Head during the yuletide season.
According to a Government Special Announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government Chief Patrick Ukah, the measure is being taken in order to avoid heavy grid locks and enhance easy flow of traffic along the route.
According to the statement, checkpoints would be located far away from the bridge head, even as u-turn points will be minimised.
The statement further added that as a complimentary measure, the Second Niger Bridge would be temporarily opened up for use by light vehicles only from 15th December, 2022 to 15th January, 2023 to ease vehicular movement between the two States, while heavy duty vehicles would use the old Niger Bridge until further notice.
The statement added that government has charged all road users, transporters and transport managers to obey all traffic rules and regulations, so as to avoid traffic jams, accidents and loss of traffic time.
