The Emir of Kano, Alahaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has harped on the importance of unity among Nigerians.
Bayero made this known when he visited the Obi of Owa, HRM Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, at his palace in Owa-Oyibu, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State recently.
According to him, “our similarities are more glaring than our differences. History has proven that we are one people as Nigerians.”
While commending the Owa monarch for the reception and accomodation of Northerners, he urged the residents to continue to respect the laws, tradition and religion of their host community.
The Emir described the Obi of Owa as a great leader and father.
“I am happy to tap from your wealth of experience as a king. With more of your type in this country, we are bound to succeed,” he added.
Earlier the HRM Efeizomor, said that Owa kingdom was founded in 1292 and that the kingdom had been home to northerners.
“It will interest you to know that most of them speak our dialect fluently. We love people from other ethnic groups, but our relationship with northerners is very cordial,” he stated
While revealing that Late General Murtala Muhammad was a chief in Owa kingdom, he said “we appreciate this gesture because you are the first Emir of Kano to visit Owa kingdom.
According to the Obi of Owa “your coming here is a gateway to many more of our relationship in trade, politics and scholarship.”
Highlights of the event included the presentation of gifts to the Emir and cultural dances by troops from Owa Kingdom.
