
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa
Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta State today said that electronic transfer of votes will check election rigging.
He therefore said that those against the use of BVAS technology in electipns were enemies of the nation, adding that such people want INEC to disobey the law.
He canvassed this view in Yenagoa Bayelsa state while.addressing
the opening ceremony of a two-day Extra-Ordinary General Assembly of the South-South Monarchs’ Forum held at DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa.
He advised those against the use of the technology (BVAS) to to have a change of heart, adding that the method would lead.to credible elections.
Okowa appealed to Nigerians to accept technology in the conduct of next election.
Okowa argued :
“The public needs to be properly educated and we thank INEC which had continued to try to educate the public concerning the elections.
“We also thank the National Assembly and President Buhari for being able to sign the new Electoral Act that allows a process for a more likely credible election than we have had in the past.”
The PDP Vice-Presidential Candidate also commendef.PresidentMuhammadu Buhari for promising to conduct free and fair election.
He therefore challenged the security agencies.to be neutral and apolitical.
Said the PDP vice presidential candidate;
“The president has repeatedly assured Nigerians that there will be free, fair and credible elections in the country and we hope that the security agencies will key into that assurance,”
The Delta state.governor harped on the important roles of traditional rulers in their communities as the custodians of their culture and tradition.
He therefore canvassed constitutional roles for them.
In his address, Bayelsa Governor, Senator Douye Diri, spoke of the relevance of Extra-Ordinary General Assembly of the Monarchs in the region .
He explained further ;
“In the forthcoming elections, we must all do our best to prevent our youths from being used as cannon fodder to satisfy the desperate ambition of political office seekers,”
