EDITORIAL. Where is the Agriculture Commissioner Probe Panel Report?

IS THE GOVERNMENT COMFORTABLE WITH CORRUPTION?

In January 2024, a probe panel was set up by the Delta State government to look at the alleged diversion of N280 million in the Ministry of Agriculture. The money was linked to the Greenhouse Project.
The 7 man probe panel is headed by the secretary to the state Government, Dr Kingsley Emu.

Those involved in the alleged sleaze were Hon Omoun Perekebena Perez, Agriculture Commissioner, Mr Bennett Ezon Abode Agamah permanent secretary, Engr Oki Preowei Yintareke and Mr Gabriel Idiatacheko.

The officials involved in alleged larceny are under suspension. Seven months running, the report of the panel is yet to be made public.
What is the cause of delay in releasing the report of the probe panel?Deltans have the right to know what is happening to the probe report. If the civil servants involved in the alleged corruption are Innocent, they should be made to return to their desk. Same should apply to the suspended Agriculture Commissioner.

Dr Kingsley Emu during the inauguration of the probe panel maintained that the suspension of the officials was not that the involved officials were guilty rather to make room for impended investigation.

Accountability and transparency demand that the probe panel should not be swept under the carpet. Why is it taking eternity to release the report of the panel? Governor Sheriff Oborevwori harped on the themes of openness and accountability as trademarks of his administration. The disposition of the probe panel attacks the very essential ingredients of the government.

The Pond News calls for immediate release of the probe panel report. It would send a strong message to all public officials that the Oborevwori administration has zero tolerance for corruption.
