EDITORIAL. Tinubu, Tame Wike

Yesterday, Rivers State political cauldron was again ignited by the State House of Assembly after few months of uneasy calm.
The legislators who were instrumental to the declaration of state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for six months are now saying that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had committed some unconstitutional breaches.

These are tension soaked times for Rivers State and indeed the nation.
The stoogies of Chief Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister and former Rivers State Governor are hellbent in causing anarchy and confusion in the state. In plain language, the legislators want to make the state ungovernable. It is time for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in the political excesses of Wike .The silence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about the political crisis in Rivers State is deeply troubling and disturbing.

At the root of the crisis is the relationship between a political godfather and godson. This dangerous political game being played by the Federal Capital Minister must be nipped in the bud. Wike has overblown image of himself as the be all and end all of Rivers State.

The current crime of Fubara, according to Wike and his cronies in the State House of Assembly is that Fubara crossed to the APC without the nod of Almighty Wike. Secondly that Fubara is nursing ambition for second term. It is true that the resolution of the earlier crisis was the pledge by Fubara not to run for second term. But that agreement was done in PDP. By crossing to APC, that PDP agreement is already dead.

But Wike and his cronies would have none of that. The Pond News understands that Wike is yet to formally join APC and still causing confusion in PDP. Agreed that Tinubu benefitted from the nuisance value of Wike in 2023. It is a political tragedy beyond description that Tinubu is more focused on 2027 and would not mind still reaping Wike nusiance value. Danger is lurking.

Wike cannot be greater than Tinubu. The president should come out as a statesman and cut Wike to size. Tinubu should rise beyond partisan political persuasion and do the needful. The nation political destiny is under threat and only Tinubu can prevent it from implosion.A cauldron is boiling in Rivers State and only Tinubu can end it. Wike must be tamed.
