The Delta State government is threading the unique but dubious distinction of duplicating services and balkanization of Ministries .
In the Ministry of Education, departments have been upgraded to full blown ministries with different commissioners.
There is Ministry of Primary education. Ministry of Basic and secondary education.
There is yet Ministry of Technical Education. Sitting atop is Ministry of Tertiary education.
The effects of this duplication and division has not shown in effective service delivery.
It is simply jobs for the boys.
The same ugly scenario is playing out in the Ministry of Works. There are two commissioners, one for Urban roads, the other for rural roads. Very soon Delta shall get Commissioner for gutters maintenance!
Last week, the governor announced the appointment of financial consultant.
There is commissioner for Finance and Commissioner for Economic planning. There is a special adviser on economic matters.
This is clearly wastage and maybe the way of spreading the MORE Agenda to the boys. This is recklessness in governance.

Council chairmen wives as copy cats
Last week, the wives of the council chairmen gathered in Ughelli, the headquarters of Ughelli North . They were hosted by the wife of Mr Jaro Egbo .
The aim of the gathering was plotting pet projects for their various council areas . The money for such projects would be taken from council purse.
It is stupid imitation of the office of the first lady of the state . Even though the office of the wife of the president or governor is not recognized by the constitution, these women wield considerable influence and government money are used for such projects.
It is an impeachable offence but our lilly livered legislators look the other way.
The Pond News forsees a situation where the wives (husband) of the councillors may challenge such spouses of the council chairmen.
Come to think of it. What are the council chairmen doing apart from the sharing of monthly allocations from Abuja? Do council chairmen think outside the box to generate internal revenue?
All councils chairmen across the country are handpicked by the party in power and state governor. That is the more reason council chairman are against getting their monthly allocation direct from Abuja.
Remember that he who pays the piper dictates the tune.
This third arm of government is just waste and do not deliver democratic dividends to the grassroots people.
So the wives of the chairmen can go on coaster rolling to spend public money . That is Nigerian definition of democracy and grassroots administration.

Shame of Delta State media houses
Last week, the state governor Hon Sheriff Oborevwori received Vanguard of the year governor award.
As usual, all the media assistants were in Lagos. Some of them had begun to wave tortoise like story of the governor achievements.
The Pond News congratulates the governor on the award.
But there is a caveat. Back home in Delta state, the state media houses are galloping from one crises to the other.
For two years running, DBS TV Asaba is only visible on social media.
The case of DRTV Warri is more pathetic. The management cannot buy diesel or petrol to power the radio and television stations .
They are at the mercy of public power sector supply. But this is Delta state where the media propagandists are saying the MORE Agenda is affecting all sectors.
Perhaps if those media houses in Lagos do a thorough investigation, they would be more careful in their social conferal role.
In plain language, most of the awards are off the mark and monetary inducement playing a major role .
The Pointer newspaper is not isolated from the crisis plaguing Delta state media houses.
A greenhorn manager is in charge . She was promoted above seven seniors and in the words of the Information Commissioner, the GM position is more political than career progression.
It boils down to painful reality, outsiders are telling the Delta State story because of the ill equipped and badly managed media houses.
