Unreported news

Okowa and Clark

The demise of Chief E K Clark within the week sent shockwaves throughout Nigeria.

Politicians of different hues and stripes expressed sadness and sent condolences to the family and Delta state government.

But there was one striking exception.

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa kept mute.

Even in death, Okowa still has grudges with Clark.

It would be recalled that Clark wrote a petition to the EFCC alleging that for eight years as a governor, Okowa misused the 13 per cent derivation fund.

Today Okowa is keeping date with the anti graft body and trying to explain to Deltans how he used billions of Naira meant for the development of oil bearing communities.

If that is the only legacy of Clark, it is a good one and worthy to remember. Justice must be served.

Journalists and Jerusalem

Delta state journalists are in the news for the wrong reason.

It is the holy pilgrimage to the holy land Israel, the people who are butchering the Palestinians for fighting for their independence.

The selection process is skewed towards some favorite journalists.

Some of them have made the trip over four times.

The fault may not be that of Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesievbe, the head of government media.

But some journalists who believe that their names must appear in every year journey to Jerusalem.

Translation. Greed.

They are after the money and not the spiritual exercise of the journey

Next time government should do due diligence in the selection of journalists travelling to Jerusalem.

This time the watch dog is in chain.

Engineers and demotion

Within the week, the state government demoted two engineers for certifying job not well done.

But there is a caveat.

You do not demote a person for doing a terrible job.

Such person should be sacked for colluding with contractors to defraud the people of Delta State and depriving them the benefits of democracy dividends.

There are many substandard projects that certified by engineers in office.

There is Igbuku Ibrede road in Ndokwa East local government areas of Delta State.

The engineers and even the state house of Assembly representing Ndokwa East LGA claimed the road had been completed by one contractor and money paid.

This is as ridiculous as absurd.

The government policy of whistle blowing is under heavy scrutiny.

Many Deltans are seeing it as element of propaganda.

The government is standing on the credibility gap.
