Youth Games fallout

The 8th National Youth Games ended in Asaba on Thursday with Delta State clinching the first position.

But two things stood as sore thumbs.

There was allegations of athletes poaching. It even came to the bizarre height that athletes were bought.

If the aim of the sport meet was to discover young athletes, athletes poaching defeats that noble goal.

Secondly the LOC was in disarray especially the sub committee on media.

The chairman of the media committee, Harrison Ocholor was simply invisible. It is a case of square peg in a round hole.

This is one of the disadvantages of putting wrong people into position because of political connection.

It explains the poor publicity of the games.

Buying notebooks for pupils

Nigerian politicians nay Deltan are funny lot and could go to any ridiculous length to get cheap publicity

Within the week, the legislator representing Sapele state constituency was distributing exercise books to pupils of some primary schools in Sapele.

The chairman of Isoko North LGA was also doing same in Ozoro

How much is the cost of exercise books and how many pupils are involved?

This is certainly lack of coordination of education policy.

These politicians are trying to be clever by half and getting underserved cheap publicity.

Can’t the legislator offer scholarship to students in Sapele?

As for the Isoko North LGA, what is the state of primary school buildings?

Why are most parents in Ozoro leaving public primary schools?

Education is too serious an enterprise to be toyed with.

Open grazing law

The Delta State House of Assembly passed law prohibiting open grazing during the Okowa administration.

Since then, the law has been implemented more in breach.

With the week, the Agriculture Commissioner came with the absurd idea of employing 120 officials in twenty five LGA to fight herders menace.

What an idea!

Can even 120 officials effectively fight the herders menace in one local government areas?

Are these people going to be armed? The truth of the matter is that the governor should get enough political will to implement the law.

Or is the government afraid of the marauding herdsmen?
