Unreported news
Ozoro: Now Southern Delta University?
Ozoro is the headquarters of Isoko north local government areas of Delta State and home to Delta State University of Science and Technology.
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in his wisdom changed the booming and flourishing Delta State polytechnic into a university named Delta State University of Science and Technology.
There was a lot of politics and infighting among the Isokos from South and North local government areas.
The elevated argument spiced with wisdom, that the Oleh campus of DElSU should be changed to a full fledged university but the Ozoro people would hadnone of that.
And so when Governor Sheriff Oborevwori dealt a fatal blow on the university, Isoko South people saw it as an opportunity to mock the north.
Most major faculties were moved from Ozoro to Orerokpe in Okpe local government areas.
The news gaining currency is that the university shall soon be changed to Southern Delta University, Ozoro as result of letter purportedly written by the management to the governor.
A call made to Prof Oboreh, the VC was not answered. Same with the text message.
The Pond News understands that this is a grand plan to change the Orerokpe campus of Delta State University into a full fledged university. The Pond News shall keep you posted.

Sports and PDP women
On Thursday, the 8th National Youth Games opened at the Stephen Keshi stadium.
But that is not the unreported news. The news was the presence of women in custom made wrappers with PDP emblem.
There was no political rally in the stadium, it was purely sport event.
Yet some overzealous local council PDP chairmen mobilized people to the event.
Do these women have time for their homes, children and husbands?
Their presence in the stadium was pure distraction and did not help the governor in any way.
Further more, The Pond News witnessed a particular lady collecting names from the various local government areas so that they could be paid their welfare money.
Despite the grassroots mobilization of people from the three senatorial districts to fill the seats, half of the stadium was empty.

Poor press unit at the stadium
Still on the ongoing sports festival, the press unit responsible for accreditation of reporters was a show of shame.
Harrison Ocholor, sports broadcast journalist, head of the publicity subcommittee was no where to be found.
He was very aloof and he should take tutorials from Mr Charles Aniagwu, former Information Commissioner on how to relate to the press.
Initially reporters were told to apply online with their pictures and that their accreditation would be confirmed.
It didn’t worked out and on Thursday reporters collected tags simply marked ‘Media’ without pictures and names of reporters.
So the tags were given to all manners of persons.
Secondly the programme booklet of the day which was supposed to be given to reporter st the point of collecting media tag was not given.
Those responsible came to the venue when the show was almost ending and started giving the programmes to those who did not need them.
There was no press kit that should contain notebooks, biros and other things.
That is why the speech of Chief Solomon Ogba, the chairman of LOC about adequate preparations sounded hollow.
This is the outcome of the absence of chairman of Delta State Sports Commission. It is another show of shame.
