Indolent Gov Aides

One notoriety of the Okowa administration was the thousands of aides without jobs description.

Some of them had no offices in Asaba and were holed up in their villages only to collect salaries at the end of the month.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is already imitating. Okowa and may even surpass him.

The buzz word in town is that depending on your connection, you just go to the office of the secretary to government to collect your appointment.

If that is the governor vision of empowerment, that is really not tidy.

People cannot be drawing salaries without visible contribution just because they are politicians.

This is nothing short of rewarding indolence.

Government should instead embark on recruitment of millions of graduates roaming the streets.

Uncaring FMC staff

If you are sick or you need urgent medical attention in Asaba, your prayer point is that you should not be taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

Within the week, our eagle eye reporter was at the emergency unit.

It was observed that there was nothing urgent or emergency about the unit.

The doctors and nurses were working with careless abandon.

Critically sick patients or accident victims were carried into the emergency unit by their relatives.

The nurses also insisted that the patients who need urgent medical attention must take cards.

Useful time is wasted in the process and preventable deaths happen.

The federal medical centre is becoming notorious as a graveyard rather than a place of curing sick patients.

Maybe the state government should petition the Federal Ministry of Health about the deficient medical services of the hospital.

Dangerous metal scavengers

A dangerous security is creeping into Asaba.

They are metal scavengers otherwise known as ‘iron condemned’ hawkers.

They move around Asaba shouting ‘iron condemned’ only for them commit havoc.

Within the week, a director in the Delta State civil service died as a result of attacks from these miscreants.

Agreed that the constitution of the country makes provision for freedom of movement and residence.

But the state government should not fold its hands while some miscreants pose as security threats.

The governor should impress on the Police Commissioner to flush out these criminals in Asaba.

Furthermore, people should stop patronizing these metals scavengers.
