Struggle for APC soul
This year will make or mar APC fortunes in the state.
It shall determine who fly the APC flag as the governorship candidate.
As it stands today, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains the frontrunner.
He is incumbent governor and has rich warchest to run the governorship race.
But there are still diehard loyalists to Senator Ovie Omo Agege .
As for the senatorial race even the best practised prophet can not predict the return of the three senators.
There are arrays of political opponents who want their positions.
The case of Senator Ede Dafinone is most precarious.
The bottomline is that battle is either lost or won as those who become ward chairmen, local government chairmen and the state party chairman will decide the fate politicians seeking elective positions.
The coming congresses of APC shall be titanic battles.

Task before Police Commissioner

Today there is a new Police Commissioner in the state following the elevation of the former holder of the office.
He must have been given official briefing.
The Pond News congratulates him.
For a start, the State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is security conscious and has demonstrated his love for the security agencies including the Police.
Last year Delta state security trust fund was launched.
And so money is not really the problem here as far as security is concerned.
What is certainly in short supply is the strong will of the police to do the needful.
The police boss should dismantle the various police check points across the state.
These have turned out to be POS machines for such police
officers.
Within the Asaba capital territory, there are many police check points.
These are points of extortion.
Secondly, this balkanization of the media must stop.
The police public relations department should treat the mass media outfits(traditional and social) on parity.
The danger of such selective treatment is to be an enemy of mass media and it could attract bad publicity for the police.
No medium is too small to be ignored.

Ukodo and his aides

The state governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori may look aloof and indifferent to political watchers from afar.
But a media confidant told The Pond News that the governor could be unusually friendly to extent of taking interest in the welfare of his immediate aides family.
A cynical smile played on the face.
But a Facebook post today showed the governor paying a surprise visit to the home of the director of protocol.
Both the protocol man and his wife were so surprised and happy.
That is what effective leadership is all about.
As a leader, the dividends of democracy should also manifest in your immediate cycle of followers.
Indeed and in truth, people around the governor are ‘chopping’ the ukodo.
Senators, state legislators and commissioners should follow the footsteps of the governor.
In the same vein , the Ukodo and various palliative should reach the journalists.
The tradition of treating Government House correspondents as the sole consumers should be looked into.
Such gesture goes beyond the Christmas Rice largesse.
Government should work out palliative measures for journalists in the state.
