Legislative monarch
Democracy is the election of few to represent the interest of the majority.
There is no room for flashes of monarchy.
However in Bomadi/Patani federal constituency, that narrative is more of fiction.
Hon Nicholas Mutu won his first election in 1999 on the ticket of PDP.
As you read this piece, Nicholas Mutu is still representing his people for more than 24 years.
Two reasons are likely for this monarchy.
It is either he is delivering the dividends of democracy to his people or there is no credible alternative to him.
Either way defeats the essence of plural democracy.
The House of Representatives should not be turned into his personal estate.
There are two local government areas that make up the Bomadi/Patani federal constituency.
It is unjust for one local government areas to continue to husband that position.
The Ijaw people should hold a summit and imbibe the principle of power rotation.
It is hoped that Nicholas Mutu would willingly give up the position so that other people should contribute their quota.

Vaulting Ambition

Politicians are people that saner beings should dread.
Politicians can plan for twenty years or more believing that they can play God.
The news gaining currency in Asaba is that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is looking beyond 2027.
With renewed confidence since defecting to APC, he is cocksure of winning the governorship polls.
That was the more reason he moved the entire structure to PDP.
Today the old APC members are like conquered people, gnashing their teeth.
Oborevwori remains the be all and end all of the APC, that is the clearest definition of incumbency.
Like the former governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Oborevwori is also looking forward to retirement after his two terms .
But as one leading political mind pointed out, that between the tea cup and mouth, any thing could happen.
Deep religious thoughts opine that only God, Allah or Oghene can decide the fate of mortal men.

Where are the LGA?

For the month of August, over N14,O68,540,625.61was given to the twenty five local government councils
.
Ughelli North received N741,054,046.11.
The minimum is about N450m.
Deltans are not told of the internally generated revenue of the councils.
There is the suspicion in some quarters that local councils are more of conduit pipes of politicians.
This is correct because of the manner of selection, sorry election of council chairmen.
That is the most curious reasons some of the chairmen are against direct allocation from Abuja to them.
At the end of the day, whether direct or indirect allocations from Abuja, the governor must still be worshipped.
Council chairmen are infamous in distributing notebooks and given undue publicity that absurdity.
If local councils could perform a quarter of their responsibilities, the state government will have less work to do.
It is high time council chairmen are held accountable.
