Chief Kenneth Gbagi, SDP governorship candidate and Delta State SDP chairman, Ambassador Oke Idawene are hurling insults at each other to gain political relevance in Delta State.
The Pond News understands that the two men are fighting dirty for nothing.
Despite the woeful performance in the Governorship election, Gbagi came fifth with a little over 4,000 votes, he is challenging the result.
The cause of the spat is Gbagi dragging Sheriff Oborevwori to election tribunal.
Ambassador Oke Idawene fired the first salvo by disowning Gbagi, saying that the guber candidate was on his own.
He made this known in a solidarity visit to the governor elect.
Said Idawene :’We want to let you know that we are not part of any litigation against your emergence as Governor elect of Delta Stateā¦. We are Deltans, we are doing what Delta State stands for and not party affairs, our members will be in the tribunal as agents of the party to say that Chief Kenneth Gbagi was never ready for elections, he did not pay one single agent and that we have rejected him body, soul and spirit.’
But in swift reaction, Gbagi instigated other members of the SDP Exco to suspend the state chairman.
Gbagi also spoke to the press dismissing the claim of the party chairman Idawene was not part of his petition against the governor elect.
He also alleged that Idawene was a PDP member.
Said Gbagi :’,Oke having been validly sacked becomes history and his ranting is the ranting and last breath of a dead animal. Disregard him in totality while we set up machinery for SDP to claim this stolen mandate and build the membership swell of this great party. The SDP has come to stay.’
The Pond News understands that it would be political alchemy and miracle for Gbagi to win the case at the tribunal given his fifth position in the governorship election.
It is just absurd political fight and struggle for political attention.
