The political battle between the APC and Labour Party took a dirty and ugly turn with exchanges of harsh and bitter words by political aides.
Mr Dele Alake, special adviser on Media and Communication to APC campaign council fired the first salvo by describing Peter Obi as ‘ the most dangerous politician’ in Nigeria.
Alake claimed that Obi rode on Nigerian youth ignorance to power, presenting himself as a Messiah, saying that Obi exploited religious and tribal sentiments.
He dropped the bombshell while addressing the press in Abuja.
Listen to Alake :’For Obi would go down in Nigera as most dangerous politician. He elevated his well known clannish mentality to a most unfortunate height by openly anchoring his campaign on religion and ethnicity. He presented himself as a poster boy for and champion of our country fault lines. He took advantage of our youths whose expectations are fast paced, who are uninterested in excuses and who were in a search of a hero. He pumped up their sentiments and rode on their emotions while grandstanding as a savior. It was a false pretence.’
In a swift reaction, chief spokesman for Obi Datti presidential campaign council Yunusa Tanko mocked the APC for a stolen election and that the party members were trying to cover their fears of stolen political loot.
Tanko stated that the APC presidential candidate and his supporters knew that they did not win the election, adding that resorting to intimidation will not hide the political reality.
He also observed that the sentiment expressed Alake was the confirmation of APC fear of Obi towering political profile.
Said Tanko:”When the APC said our principal is dangerous, he meant somebody they are already scared of. They have never got like him who gave them a serious run for their money. They have employed very criminally minded individuals who helped them in allocating results to states. That has been exposed. And so they are so scared of the fact that we are going to prove that position in court.”
