Crisis is brewing between Okpanam youths and Asaba youths over the actual boundaries between
Asaba, the state capital and Okpanam in Oshimili North local government areas.
While the Okpanam youths insist that the boundary is Macodons on Okpanam road, the Asaba youths claim that the boundary is the legislative quarters in Okpanam road.
The Okpanam youths fired the first salvo by a statement signed by Comrade Lucky Okolo, president of Okpanam Youths Organization.
The Okpanam youths directed property owners and business owners operating from Macdons to rename their signpost from Asaba to Okpanam.
Part of the statement reads thus:’This is to inform the general public particularly property owners. business owners, shops and hotels as well as beer parlour joints operating in Okpanam from Macdons that they should rename their signposts from Asaba to Okpanam, Asaba Road, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State within two weeks of this publication or face the consequences of non compliance with the directive.’
Reacting ,the Asaba youths said the directive of the Okpanam youths should be ignored.
In a statement, Asaba community youth council signed by Comrade Ogbueshi Obodo Okediachi said the boundary between Asaba and Okpanam is the legislative quarters.
Part of the statement reads thus:’This is to inform the general public as well as the Okpanam youths organization that the boundary between Asaba and Okpanam is the legislative quarters in Okpanam road and not the Ekwumeku Roundabout. This is a popular fact that has been established in both Asaba and Okpanam’.
All efforts to reach the chairman of Oshimili North LGA and chairman of Oshimili South LGA were not successful.
The Pond news calls on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to use his good offices to nip the crisis in the bud.
The Pond news understands that the peaceful atmosphere in the Delta State capital territory should not be disturbed by some over zealous youths.
