Politicians in Delta State are in hot frenzy to become members of council caretaker committees, The Pond News investigation revealed.
Our investigation revealed that government was contemplating using civil servants as care taker committee members.
This move is stoutly resisted by politicians who believe that caretaker appointments was part of democratic dividends.
Such politicians are pulling the necessary political strings including sending CVs to the governor kitchen cabinet and the state PDP chairman Barrister Kingsley Esiso.
The tenure of the council chairmen and councillors end this Friday March 8, 2024.
It could be recalled that last week, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Unity Hall in Government House, Asaba said that the date for council election shall soon be announced.
Said the governor :’The local government council chairmen will exit this coming week and I want to assure you that very soon, we will do election into local government councils. A date will be announced for the election, it will not be too long.’
However, The Pond News understands that the election can not hold in less than four months time.
The money must be provided for Delta State Independent Electoral Commission.
The commission would have to train its staff and adhoc staff that would conduct the election.
On the part of the PDP, it would conduct primaries for the chairmanship candidates at the councils level and councillors at the wards level.
The Pond News understands that is the real election as the candidate for the election becomes the next chairman.
Those who are not sure of winning the primaries are lobbying to be in the caretaker committees.
