A Nigerian citizen in Warri, Delta State Mr Emmanuel Akpasubi has cried out over the estimated bill of N1.4m that BEDC asked him to pay or face immediate disconnection.
Narrating his ordeal to journalists yesterday in Warri, Akpasubi said the bill was accumulated over the years by the previous occupants.
He explained further why he should not pay the outrageous bill
Listen to Him : ‘I wish to state my objection to the BEDC decision that I should pay as much as over a million naira accumulated bills, which I didn’t incur on the following grounds: (1) The accumulated bill of N1.4 million span over 20yrs that the house has been built, not just 2016. I came in, January 2022. (2) The said amount is a product of a grossly over estimated billing throughout the period.(3) I have been paying my bills within the range of the billing calculator done, when I complained to the CCU. (4) Going through the records, it was discovered that there was hardly any month that bills weren’t paid. (5) It is therefore not known how the BEDC arrived at the 2016 it based its calculation on. (6) If the difference between the stipulation of the billing calculator and what I have been paying is used to work out what I should pay from the accumulated bills, it would be lower than the above one million naira I am being asked to pay. This is extortion. I crave the indulgence of the NERC to use its good offices to give me justice.’
He also disclosed that he had written to National Electricity Regulation Commission to intervene in the matter.
When contacted , an official of BEDC advised Akpasubi to visit the Warri office to sort out the issue, adding that a better alternative is the acquisition of prepaid meter.
