Christians mark Independence day with prayers

Christian Association of Nigeria Yobe state chapter (CAN), has organized an Interdenominational Unity Service and National prayer to commemorate Nigeiria’s 63rd Independence Day.

The event which took place in Diocese of Damaturu All Saints Cathedral New Jerusalem on 2nd of October 2023, themed ‘Arise and Shine’ stressed the need for peace, unity and progress of the nation.

Speaking at the event, the State Chairman (CAN) Bishop Audu Yohanna expressed gratitude to God Almighty for his mercy and grace for mankind.

He emphasized that the Independence Day signifies the moment Nigerians liberated themselves from the rule of the colonial masters.

  He lamented the current state of the nation,  stressing on prevalent issues such as the widespread poverty,  rampant bribery and corruption and the suffocation of the common man.

Also speaking, Reverend Canon Kunle Oladimeji commended the Governor of Yobe State Alhaji Mai Mala Buni's efforts in sustaining peace and harmony in the state and encouraged Christians to always pray for those in authorities for proper representation.

The statement urged Christians and Churches to take a stand and steer the nation towards the right path.

It outlined a concise nine points agenda, charging citizens to embrace peace and collaborate for the betterment of the country.

He called on both traditional and political leaders to remember the struggles of the common man and actively work towards improving their lives.
