On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) held a thanksgiving service in Onitsha, Anambra State, marking a significant milestone in the party’s recent leadership transition.
Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Senatorial aspirant Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, and numerous other party leaders and stakeholders attended the service at St. Jude Catholic Parish, Fegge.
The event celebrated the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa as APGA’s National Chairman, resolving a months-long leadership dispute.
The Supreme Court ruling, delivered on November 27, 2024, in the case APGA & ANOR vs. OYE & ORS, effectively ended the legal battle with former faction leader Chief Edozie Njoku.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently reinstated Ezeokenwa’s position, paving the way for APGA to move forward united ahead of the upcoming November Governorship election and the Anambra South senatorial by-election.
During the service, Barrister Ezeokenwa addressed the congregation, emphasizing unity and collective action.
He praised Governor Soludo’s support during the crisis and stated his vision for a reinvigorated APGA committed to delivering on its promises to the people.
Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, a prominent senatorial candidate, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the need for party unity and emphasizing his own commitment to delivering “populist and purposeful representation” for Anambra South.
Following the service, Onitsha South stakeholders organized an appreciation rally for Governor Soludo, recognizing his infrastructure projects, specifically the completion of over 12 roads in the area.
The events, attended by prominent figures including the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somto Udeze, the Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, and several commissioners, showcased APGA’s renewed strength and commitment to achieving its political goals.
The success marks a crucial step forward for the party as it heads into a pivotal election period.
