The days of Chief Nyesom Wike , the Federal Capital Territory Minister as the political overlord in Rivers are numbered as the national APC has dumped him.
Instead the national executive of APC has thrown its weight behind the state governor Siminalayi Fubara as not only the leader of the party and that the governor shall contest for second tenure.
The APC national secretary, Ajibola Basiru dropped the bombshell against the backdrop of the overbearing attitude of Wike.
Basiru maintained that Fubara has the support and understanding of the party for his re- election campaign.
Said Basiru : :Nobody can frustrate any APC governor, Fubara , like other APC governors, is running the affairs of his state well.’
The Pond News understands that the national chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawa Yilwatda had also declared Fubara as the leader of the party in the state.
Speaking on a national television last week ,the APC national chairman cautioned Wike.
Listen to Him : :Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC in Rivers State, but he would need to coordinate with every other person in the state.’
Another party man debunked the myth of Wike popularity, adding that the party was bigger than the FCT Minister.
Said the party man :’Wike is just unnecessarily agitating himself because ultimately, the decision on Rivers will be that of the President, not him. Wike is not as popular as he is claiming to be. He lost his polling unit in the last election, he lost to the Labour Party.’
The Pond News learnt on good authority that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was tired of the nuisance value of Wike.
